Telling stories about amazing people doing amazing work in remote parts of the globe.
Our first story is about a project named CCHIPS (Comprehensive Community Health Initiatives and ProgramS), created by Wyman Worldwide Health Partners (WWHPS). Our story takes place in Bisate, a remote village in Northern Rwanda. This village has no running water, electricity or sanitation. The Bisate Clinic has survived through years of corruption and neglect. The story you will see unfold here is of the remarkable and often infuriating struggle to build, maintain and sustain a health center in this remote and uniquely-challenged part of the world.
Sean Clauson, a filmmaker and one of our partners, has been documenting this pilot project, on-site in Rwanda since November of 2006. After returning to the U.S. for a brief respite in August of 2007 (less of a rest and more of a scramble to log and digitize footage), on October 26th at 3:50 A.M., he returned to Rwanda for a now-unknown amount of time.
Sean has been keeping a detailed diary that we are going to post in chronological order on this site, which will give you an amazingly intimate and visceral sense of his experience to date. The entries begin with Sean's arrival in Rwanda in November 2006. We will also be posting media (audio, video and data) about the project and the amazing people surrounding it.
This site is intentionally changing/updating on a continual basis, and we invite you to check back often for the latest news, events, successes & set-backs, personal stories and photo- and video-graphic accounts of the people and the progress.
We feel knowledge sharing is very important and find a lot of wheels being reinvented when working with NGO’s and governments alike. Creating a repository for the data, knowledge and technology that is free and open to those who need it is one the founding goals of Clinics Rising.
There is an area to the left "Info-Share", where this knowledge resides. Within this resource section you will find documents that have been submitted about project findings and ultimately the solutions to the problems inevitably encountered when building or upgrading clinics worldwide. You are encouraged to share these findings and or to share yours with us.
In the end the mission of Clinics Rising is to tell the stories of the underserved, reveal and share research and findings, and create a sense of empowerment.
Enjoy and share,
Clinics Rising
