Update From The Field

Don Cross one of the JDSF volunteers that has been in Southern Sudan since January and is updating their work on the Syracuse, NY Post Standards metro Voices blog.

Heidi did some wound treatment last night on the baby, and today they had the baby return for full wound inspection and treatment which lasted over 2 hours and resulted in fully cleaned and dressed wound with antibiotics administered (by IV). They will be checking him everyday until they leave in one week. 

The mother is now receiving a full examination and I currently do not know the outcome. Her vitals are strong though, I helped to get the Welch Allyn diagnostic station working so they could check her BP, Temp, O2 saturation and heart rate. 

The other medical folks are each busy with patients (assisted by the clinic's 2 medical officers Dr. Juma and Dr. Moses) and they are "pumped" at being fully immersed so quickly (patients were lining up at daybreak) in fairly serious cases of a full spectrum of "Tropical Medicine" patients.
